A woman recently baked her friend a cake for her birthday, but when the friend ‘had to share’ the cake with friends, she demanded a new cake, free of charge! The woman refused, but was she wrong for doing so? Here’s what she had to say:
She Baked During Lockdown
During the quarantine, the woman started baking at home as a hobby. But as time went on, her baking skills got a lot better and she began taking cake orders from people.
She Was Balancing Baking and Studies
Since she was still a student, the woman only took cake orders occasionally. She also baked cakes for her family and friends’ important occasions. She did this because it made her happy.
Zia’s Farewell Birthday Party
Her best friend Zia celebrated her 23rd birthday, and it was a special celebration since she was going overseas for her studies afterward. For Zia’s birthday, she made two special cakes. One was a big butterscotch-caramel cake with colorful decorations. The other was a lotus Biscoff cheesecake, which was Zia’s favorite dessert.
The Unexpected Reaction
Zia planned to keep the cheesecake for herself, which caused unexpected drama. “On the day of her birthday, we cut the cake, and she gave us all one slice each from the Biscoff Cheesecake (only 3 of us apart from her),” she said.
Zia’s Special Request
Zia loved the cheesecake so much and complained that she only got 3/4th of it. She said that she wanted the whole cake for herself so the woman promised to make it for her someday.
She Baked For Her Father
A few days later, she made two cheesecakes for her dad’s birthday, as he didn’t like buttercream or whipped cream frosted cakes. He preferred cheesecakes or sponge cakes.
Zia Demanded the Cake
Excitedly, the woman shared pictures of the cakes on her business Instagram and Zia saw them and wanted one immediately. However, she explained that they were for her dad, but Zia insisted on having one.
She Eventually Gave In
To compromise, she gave Zia three slices from one of the cakes. She hoped Zia would be happy, but things didn’t go as expected. Instead, Zia was disappointed. “When Zia saw them, she immediately asked me why I hadn’t packed up the whole cake for her. I explained to her that I couldn’t do that because it was for my dad, and the rest of my family,” she said.
Was She Wrong to Refuse?
Zia and started complaining that she had to share her birthday cake with them. She was very surprised at her best friend’s reaction, but she knew that she couldn’t bake another one due to her upcoming exams. Then Zia got angry and criticized her for favoring her dad. This hurt their relationship and caused tension.
One user said, “You are not selfish; you did something nice for your friend, and she ruined it with her entitlement.”
Another user said, “Why is she demanding that an entire cake be baked for her for free? Stop being a doormat for your friend.”
