A woman recently asked for advice about how to deal with a late-night stalker. The man kept appearing outside her house at night, but was she wrong to want to call in the law? Here’s what she had to say:
The Woman Only Wanted Some Food
“Around the end of last year one of the local fast food places started doing deliveries, and I (38F), took advantage of the convenience. Because I live in a small town, most of the time it was the same delivery guy bringing my food. And, to begin with, it was fine.”
The Driver Sought A Deeper Bond
At first, the woman felt at ease with the delivery driver. She didn’t see him as a friend, but she made sure to be polite. She smiled at him, thanked him for his service, and that was that. But he didn’t seem to think so.
COVID Took The Woman Out
“In October, I got COVID. Wasn’t too bad, but my voice was destroyed from coughing and in the weeks after I sounded pretty wretched. I guess something about me being sick made the driver decide I wasn’t okay in general, because he got a lot more chatty after that.”
She Thought He Was Just Being Nice
The driver was always asking the woman how she was feeling. At first, she thought he was just being polite. But when he told the woman that he cared about her, she started to wonder about the driver’s intentions.
The Driver Made His Move
Several weeks later, the woman was up at night when she heard somebody outside of her house. She was shocked to see that it was the driver. She hadn’t ordered food; he’d just come to see her. She didn’t know what to do.
She Tried To Defuse The Situation
The woman was very uncomfortable and didn’t want to make things worse. When he asked to come in, she turned him down, but still tried to be polite. In fact, once he had left, she wondered if she should have been firmer. The experience shook her up, but little did she know that the nightmare was just beginning.
The Driver Came Back For More
The woman decided that she would’t order from the fast food place where the driver worked. However, the driver’s visits didn’t end. Two months after the first invasion, he tried to enter her house again. When she ignored him, he left. She thought it was over. But the driver couldn’t take a hint.
The Harrasment Continued
Four months later, the woman was surprised to hear the driver outside her house once again. She had thought that he’d gotten the message. Yet here he was, ringing her doorbell and demanding to be let in. The woman wasn’t going to take it anymore.
The Woman Laid Down The Law
The woman told the driver that if he pulled the same stunt again, she’d be forced to call the cops on him. Couldn’t he see that he was freaking her out? Although the driver didn’t seem too bothered, he did eventually leave.
How Should She Respond?
The woman was caught at a crossroads. She didn’t want to complain in case the man lost his job, and she wondered if she’d been unclear in the past when telling him to leave. But, at the same time, she couldn’t believe that he wasn’t getting the hint. She didn’t deserve his late-night calls.
People Answered The Call
One person suggested that the woman get the cops involved: “Call the non-emergency police line and let htem know this has happened. Next time you see him headed your way call 911. You don’t respond to him.”
Another person said that the woman should stop excusing the driver’s actions: “He shows up your place drunk in the middle of the night and tries to get in. He’s a creep and a stalker.”
